What is Hypnotherapy?

Have you tried many different options to try and achieve your goals? Are you looking to live your best possible life? You want to be fit and healthy for many more years. You want to have the energy to enjoy time with your loved ones.

Hypnotherapy, healing by a trance like state, has been around for almost as long as man and is found in one form or another, in virtually every culture in the world. It could also legitimately be described as the original psychological therapy.

A reasonably good definition of hypnosis could be:

Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by (although not exclusively) mental and physical relaxation, in which your subconscious is able to communicate with your conscious mind. It is a wonderful way by which we may access our inner potential.

As a form of psychological therapy Hypnotherapy is distinctive in that it attempts to address the clients subconscious mind. In practice, most often, but not always, the hypnotherapist requires the client to be in a relaxed state, then may enlist the power of the client’s own imagination and may utilise such methods as storytelling, metaphor, symbolism, or the use of direct suggestions for beneficial change.

I tend not to dig into what lies in the client’s past and caused the problems , instead therapy concentrates more on a client’s current life and presenting problems. It is considered important if the client is personally motivated to change.

What does it feel like?

This relaxed state is something you experience at least twice every day. Its the lovely relaxed state you pass through as you wake each morning and drift off to sleep each evening.

You’ll Never Relax Me

I’ll relax you from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. If you’re thinking, “You’ll never relax me” I’ve never failed yet and I’ve had some tough cookies. Once you’re relaxed, then the work of enforcing all the good habits we’ve discussed, starts.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

Being able to completely relax is probably the most important thing. Imagine trying to take on and retain new information when you’re navigating a busy road junction. You probably won’t even hear what’s being said, never mind remember it.

However, it’s not necessary to actively listen once you’re relaxed. It’s likely your mind will wander and go off into a day dream and this is perfectly normal and ok. So long as your unconscious mind is available to listen and take on board what is being said, that’s enough.

If at any point during the Hypnotherapy session you become uncomfortable with the process you can immediately come out of the session simply by opening your eyes.

Meet Karen Baker

That’s me.

I’ve been a clinical hypnotherapist since 2008 and have helped people with all sorts of problems for many years. Most clients only require about three sessions, although its very individual and depends on you and why you’d like hypnotherapy. Quitting smoking can usually be done in one session.

Ironically, the reason I first became interested in hypnotherapy was because my then boyfriend successfully quit smoking through hypnosis. At the time, I was very sceptical – despite having a degree in Psychology. He basically nagged me, over three months, look into it!

Once I began training, I quickly understood how powerful the connection between the unconscious mind and behaviour can be. From day one, I loved helping people create positive change in their lives.

Why Do My Clients Succeed?

Every person has their own reason for considering hypnotherapy.

For some, it’s health.

For others, it’s wanting to be able to have energy to spend time with family and loved ones. It might be to regain control of your emotions and know you can handle any situation without suffering from a panic attack. You may need a boost in your confidence, for an interview or presentation. Perhaps you want freedom from a phobia.

I take the time to understand what truly motivates you, then use those motivations within the hypnotherapy process to help strengthen your commitment and resolve to overcome your problem.

FAQs

Can I claim my treatment on my health insurance?

Yes, you can with some insurance companies. I’m registered with CNHC, so check your policy.

Will I be able to drive after my hypnotherapy session?

Yes, you will be fine to drive, assuming you could drive before the session. You will feel lovely and relaxed and will have time to feel normal, before you leave.

How many sessions will it take?

That’s a difficult question to answer, we will discuss what you want to achieve and then it will be easier to assess how many sessions it may take. Some things can be solve in just one session, others may take three sessions.

If you want to quit smoking this normally takes just one session. If something dramatic happens in your life which puts a spanner in the works, a follow up session is free. I always prefer that my clients succeed in the end.

Where do hypnotherapy sessions take place?

Generally speaking it’s best if you come to me, so the environment is quiet and there are no interruptions from family or friends.

If you prefer to stay in your own home, it is possible to hold sessions remotely.
