How would you like to finally have your very best body, by being kind to yourself, rather than punishing yourself? Real, lasting change comes from making small, manageable adjustments that, over time, create big and sustainable results. Eat healthily and achieve your goals with hypnotherapy.

Meaningful Change Doesn’t happen Overnight

It’s important to remember that meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight. Even if you had a gastric band fitted today, you wouldn’t wake up three stone lighter tomorrow. Weight loss and improved health take time and require long-term lifestyle changes. The difference this time is that these changes aren’t just about how you look—they’re about how you feel too. And when you feel good, confidence and results naturally follow. This time, we’re doing it for the long term. With hypnotherapy it’s easier to eat healthily and achieve your long lasting goals.

So, what do we need to consider?

To begin with, I don’t want the focus to be purely on weight loss. Instead, the priority is health—because when you support your body properly, weight loss often becomes a natural side effect.

With that in mind, I’d like to introduce the 80/20 rule, or Pareto Principle. This means living healthily 80% of the time. That works out at roughly 5.6 days a week—let’s call it six days of balanced, nourishing choices, with one day for treats or rest. This approach removes guilt, supports consistency, and helps you stay on track without feeling deprived.

Another important principle is understanding where change really comes from. Again, it’s an 80/20 balance—around 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. Exercise is important for strength, mental health, and overall wellbeing, but food choices play the biggest role in body composition and energy levels.

Let me explain why.

Many years ago, I ran the Chester Half Marathon. When I finished, I was given a goodie bag which, among other things, contained a Mars Bar. I don’t even like Mars Bars, but I was hungry, tired, and I’d just completed a half marathon—so surely I’d earned it, right? In reality, that single Mars Bar replaced all the calories I had just burned during the race, a whole half marathon. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the time to offset the bad choices, I could make, with exercise.

The point is this: you can’t out-exercise a poor diet. No amount of running, gym sessions, or classes will undo consistently unhealthy food choices.

In my next Blog, I’ll be focusing in more detail on What a Healthy Diet Actually Looks Like. In the meantime, start thinking about how you can reduce processed foods in your diet.

How do you identify processed foods?

In simple terms, they’re foods you don’t cook from scratch. Take a look at ingredient lists when you’re shopping—how many ingredients are there? Do you recognise them all? If there are lots of unfamiliar words or additives, it’s a good sign that the food is highly processed.

A few extra things to start thinking about:

* Keeping blood sugars stable by choosing low GI foods (I’ll explain low GI in a later Blog)

* Eating slowly and mindfully

* Including foods like berries and nuts

* Taking inspiration from a Mediterranean-style diet

* Getting clear on *why* you’re doing this—how do you want to look, feel, and show up in your life?
